About
I work with people who are struggling with a variety of mental health, substance use, and existential problems. My work is influenced by psychodynamic theory and I am currently a psychoanalytic psychotherapy candidate at the Emory University Psychoanalytic Institute.
My first priority when working with new patients is to establish trust and help create a relationship that is safe and honest. Within the context of this secure relationship, my patients are able to better understand their self-limiting or self-defeating patterns, mourn life's losses, and establish or reestablish a life that is organized around the values that matter most to them.
My hope is that my patients will develop a reliable self-esteem, improve their ability to be in relationship with self and others, and live life with less reactivity and more flexibility.
I am an Atlanta native who completed my undergraduate degree studying literature at Georgia State University. After graduation I entered the behavioral health field as a wilderness guide leading adolescents and young adults on backpacking and canoeing expeditions in western North Carolina.
I received an MSW degree from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work before gaining clinical experience in diverse settings all along the addiction medicine levels of care. During this time I also taught at the university level and provided addiction consultations to psychiatry and family medicine residents at Duke and UNC affiliated medical centers. I opened a private practice in 2023 and currently provide services to adolescents, adults, families, and organizations. Please contact me by phone or email for additional information or to set up a consultation.
Rates and Insurance
My fee for clinical services is $180 per session. Intensive psychotherapy (multiple sessions per week), clinical supervision, and training fees are determined at the first session or by phone prior to the time of service.
I am not in-network with any insurance companies. I bill patients directly and upon request can provide the necessary information on my billing documents for patients to file their own claims for out-of-network reimbursement, if applicable.
Location and Contact
My practice is located in Executive Park and is convenient to Morningside, Emory/Decatur, and Buckhead. When appropriate, I also provide telehealth services throughout GA and NC.
I would be glad to speak with referring professionals or prospective patients to see if I might be of service. I can be reached at shane@sgpcounseling.com or 470-516-6983.
